The President of Coral Island, Lucy Alvarez, has said the rockets launched from the island were dummy missiles fired as part of a weapons test.

Weazel News reported earlier that rockets had been launched from Coral Island and had come down in the island’s own waters, and that it was not known whether they were live. In a statement issued by her office, President Alvarez said:

“This was a weapons test, carried out as part of our commitment to keeping our island safe. The missiles were dummies. We would not use our residents’ funds to test live ammunition.”

Weazel News has not been able to confirm independently what was fired.

What the statement does not say

The statement does not say how many missiles were fired, when, or from where on the island. It also does not say whether shipping and aircraft were warned before the launch, or whether the State of San Andreas, the Air National Guard and Governor Diane Carrow’s office were told in advance.

Weazel News has put those questions to the Office of the President and will publish any reply in full.

Background

Our original report, “Rockets launched from Coral Island come down in the island’s own waters”, has the details as they were known at the time of publication.

The launch comes a week after a Coral Island military Mammoth Avenger was seen over Paleto Bay, a flight Coral Island’s government described as being for “training purposes”.
