Update, 6 October: The President of Coral Island, Lucy Alvarez, says the rockets were dummy missiles fired as part of a weapons test, and that residents’ funds would not be used to test live ammunition. Her statement is in full in our follow-up, “Coral Island says rockets were dummy missiles fired in a weapons test”.
Rockets have been launched from Coral Island and came down in the island’s own waters, according to reports reaching Weazel News.
It is not yet known whether they were live missiles or dummy rounds fired as a test or a drill.
Weazel News has asked the Office of the President of Coral Island what was fired, why, and whether anyone was warned before the launch. The office had not replied by the time of first publication.
What we know
Rockets were launched from Coral Island.
They came down in the sea within Coral Island’s own waters.
What we do not know
Whether the rockets were live or dummies, how many were fired, exactly when, and from where on the island. Weazel News also cannot yet say whether ships or aircraft in the area were warned beforehand.
What we are asking
Were these live weapons? Was this a test, a drill or something else? Was a warning issued to shipping and to aircraft before the launch? Were the State of San Andreas, the Air National Guard and Governor Diane Carrow’s office told in advance?
We will publish any reply from the Office of the President in full.
Coral Island, recently
The launch comes a week after a Coral Island military Mammoth Avenger was seen over Paleto Bay, a flight Coral Island’s government said was for “training purposes”. Days later, Coral Island agreed to help rebuild Los Santos after talks with the State.
If you saw or filmed the launch, or the rockets coming down, the Weazel News tip line is open.
